Understand each destination’s purpose
Buoys establish separate starting positions. A catch space calls on the deck, while Scatter introduces a condition for the table. The Bonus Dock presents its restricted selection of actions. At the far end, the Trophy Lamp brings the travelling crews together.
Explain the action attached to the destination actually reached. An attractive illustration or nearby deck does not authorise an extra draw, and travelling over a marked feature is not automatically the same as stopping on it.
Count distance with arrival rules in mind
Begin counting from the boat’s settled position, then inspect the space where the movement ends. A Comet instruction may extend that movement, but it leaves the special arrival conditions around the dock and final stretch intact.
Treat the Bonus Dock as a precise destination rather than an optional stop along the way. If the move carries the boat beyond it, complete that move. Do not shorten the distance merely to take one of the displayed choices.
Make the new position unambiguous
Once an instruction is complete, its resulting position becomes the next turn’s reference point. Tell the table where the boat finished before another roll begins, and keep its token on that exact route mark.
An uncertain move is easier to settle while the evidence is still on the table. Check the boat’s position, the destination mark and the card responsible for the action. The clear-table rule favours a shared reading over competing recollections.
